  7. Did you see the article in datalink about the tory MP for Devon South
  8. The woman wants to jail hackers. She says the following:
  9. "it will exclude the amateur hackers who can cause damage through sheer 
  10. stupidity"
  11. "I dont think it is right for a hacker to determine society's right to 
  12. privacy"
  13. "lives are being put at risk by 'incompetent' hackers"
  14. (whats an incompetent hacker?)
  15. She says (by the way, her name is Emma Nicholson),
  16. she used to be a programmer at ICL:
  17. "In those days I was doing things like working on the bootstrap 
  18. routines to shave off nano-seconds"
  19. SOME PROGRAMMER! Why shave nano-seconds off a routine used only when 
  20. the machine is brought up?
  21. "In those days there was no hacking because it was all machine code"
  22. I thinks she means there were no modems, and what the hell has machine 
  23. code(assembler to programmers), got to do with stopping hacking?
  24. "As we advance we lose things like security along the way"
  25. Oh sure! Because programs are no longer written in "machine code" they 
  26. are now error prone and are a security risk! And those old systems used 
  27. to have a much stricter logon procedure didnt they!
  28. She hasn't got a clue whats she's talking about.
  29. Jim Smith wrote the article, and he's usually pretty good. Perhaps 
  30. thats why he left all those silly quotes it.
